Iowa to Guatemala...

I got a contract to ferry an airplane.

flew to des moines to pick it up. i had to stay in a hotel before i could take the 2 hour bus drive to the tiny town where the airplane was located. couldn't sleep. spent the whole night talking to the front desk lady. she was actually quite refreshing. left to fairfield, IA in the morning. spent the day sleeping and planning out the route. picked up the airplane the following morning. left around noon. made it to houston by 7. spent the night with a friend. had some real good texan bbq. smoked out (it had been a long time since my last time) and hung out. good times.

slept 3 hours before i left to the airport. spent 2 hours figuring out some paperwork issues. made it out of the airport at 12pm. after another stop in texas, i made it to mexico. thought about staying in mexico. i didn't. flew at night over very high terrain. made the mistake of not getting a thorough weather briefing. spent the night flight dodging a massive thunderstorm. was over a pitch black area over the pacific, admiring the gorgeous sky and evading the scary thunderstorm. 3 hours after departure i start seeing the lit skies of guatemala. i see clouds and enormous volcanoes, lit up by the moon's light. i get to the hotel and knock out, ready for my flight tomorrow. i get to the airport. troubles at the ticket counter. my flight back isnt for another day. i go back to the hotel, embarrassed. made the best of it and took a tour of guatemala. checked out the ancient town in guatemala and had my cab driver as a tour guide. ate at the best restaurant in town and let me tell you, it was delicious! made the walk back to the hotel and was given bad directions. i got lost. i loved it. it was great walking through the streets, the parks filled with amorous couples. the day was as perfect as can be. light winds. about 75 degrees. and low humidity. a long day of walking led to a long nap at the hotel... and so.. here I am.. ready for my flight el salvador, and then back home. more trips to come.

i love life.
